Director of Communications and Marketing - Girls Who Invest

NEW YORK, NY (IN OFFICE 3 DAYS PER WEEK)

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

Girls Who Invest (GWI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the investment management

industry by attracting and advancing women investors, changemakers, and leaders. They are changing the face of

investing through education, mentoring, internships, and a supportive, motivated community and have reached a

community of nearly 2,000 alumni in just seven years.

GWI enables college students to explore investment management careers through its two tuition-free educational

programs. The Summer Intensive Program combines in-residence academic training led by top university

professors with a guaranteed paid internship at one of more than 100 leading investment management firms. The

Online Intensive Program is self-directed and asynchronous, allowing independent learners the opportunity to

master finance and investing fundamentals at their own pace from renowned training organizations.

The GWI Career Institute focuses on the long-term professional development, retention, and advancement of our

alumni in investment management. GWI provides career advisory services, community building, and connections

for our alumni at all stages in their careers.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

GWI is seeking a Director of Communications and Marketing to advance its mission and bring GWI’s impact to life,

with an emphasis on scholar and alumni stories and the power of partnership. The Director of Communications

and Marketing will design and then oversee the execution of an expanded communications, marketing, and

outreach strategy and plan. They will ensure GWI’s reach to a diverse cross-section of audiences including

investment firms, corporations, foundations, scholars, alumni and the broader public.

This role will report directly to the CEO, work closely and collaboratively with the entire GWI team including

development, programs, and career development, and manage external agencies. At a high level, responsibilities

include directing and executing GWI’s external communications and marketing strategies around organization

visibility, branding guidelines and adherence, public relations, social media, and media/ communications outreach

as well as assisting with crafting and driving executive communications, and writing, editing, and publishing GWI

content.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communications and Marketing Strategy and Execution

• Develop and implement innovative communications strategies and plans that measurably reach key

audiences and are aligned with strategic initiatives. Ensure strategies tie to and incorporate GWI’s events.

• Create and manage a unified brand and voice across all GWI programs and for all GWI audiences.

• Oversee GWI’s messaging and content to ensure that every communication embodies GWI’s brand, voice,

values, and commitment to equity.

Girls Who Invest – Director of Communications and Marketing

• Work across GWI to establish a regular cadence of relevant, easily accessible, coordinated content that is

delivered through various communication and marketing channels.

• Lead and manage the development and maintenance of compelling GWI program and event materials and

media including websites, press releases, newsletters, presentations, branding and all manners of collateral.

• Support the CEO and senior leaders with executive communications for internal and external audiences.

• Write, copy, and edit submissions and public content and assist in copyediting other content.

Team Collaboration and Management

• Manage and direct GWI’s PR firm and external vendors as well as develop strong working relationships across

GWI to ensure content best reflects each department’s needs and the GWI brand.

• Serve as both communications lead and project manager to ensure the execution of specific strategies,

timelines, metrics, and improvements for communication activities.

• Assist and partner with the fundraising and development function to understand donor journeys and assist

with the submission of proposals and related content and tools (grant review, concepts, graphics, logos,

social media campaigns, etc.).

• Oversee and train the GWI team on communications best practices and GWI’s standards, branding, and

processes related to communications and marketing.

• Develop and engage internal team-specific communications leads to leverage their expertise and institutional

knowledge.

members so they can maximize effectiveness in communications and beyond.

A strong candidate would bring/be:

• Commitment to and passion for GWI and its mission; enthusiastic about communicating and generating

excitement around mission, history, vision, programs, and fundamental strengths.

• 10+ years of communications experience with a corporate, agency or non-profit background.

• A history of developing and leading communications strategies and executing successful initiatives with

measurable results including marketing campaigns, social media efforts, and events.

• An astute listener with the ability to clearly articulate a vision as well as to interpret and include multiple

needs and viewpoints into GWI’s brand and message.

• A team player and strong relationship builder with experience partnering and communicating across teams

and to and for leadership.

• A generalist equally motivated by creating strategy as executing it using a broad array of leading practice

communications styles, formats and distribution channels.

• An independent self-starter who also thrives in executing strategies collaboratively to maximize efficiency

and effectiveness.

• Strong project management and problem-solving skills and able to manage multiple priorities and demands

with short lead-times in a fast-paced environment.

Girls Who Invest – Director of Communications and Marketing

• Exceptional writing, communication, storytelling, PowerPoint and visual design skills.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or Marketing is highly preferred.

LOCATION AND TRAVEL: This role is based in New York, NY and would be in the office at least 3 days per week

as part of a hybrid office model. Additional ability to travel occasionally including during GWI’s summer program.

COMPENSATION: Current compensation range expected: $135,000-$165,000. The starting pay will depend on a

variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, and certification. GWI

offers a strong and competitive benefits package.
