Our Program

A note from GWI Founder, Seema Hingorani

Our second Girls Who Invest Summer Intensive Program ended on August 16, 2017 and we were once again thrilled with the talent and diversity of our 2017 cohort. This year we doubled the size of our cohort to 60 young women who represented 33 different colleges from across the country. We also launched the Girls Who Invest Online Learners Program enabling an additional 292 college women access to free online courses and certificate programs through our partnerships with Coursera and CFA Institute.

Our Summer Intensive Program began on University of Pennsylvania’s campus in Philadelphia where for four weeks our scholars learned core investment and finance concepts from highly regarded business school professors and industry leading practitioners in the asset management business. The curriculum was rigorous and engaging, with topics ranging from financial statement analysis and business valuation to portfolio asset allocation and impact investing. Beyond the technical fundamentals, scholars learned presentation skills and important guidelines for preparing for a successful interview. During the final days of the educational program, scholars presented their Capstone Project in teams: a recommendation to buy or sell the stocks of Comcast Corporation or Urban Outfitters. We were so impressed by their professionalism and how much information they had absorbed!

Following our four-week educational program, our scholars applied what they learned through hands-on six-week paid summer internships at leading asset management firms around the world. Our students were in close contact with Girls Who Invest staff throughout their internships and were paired with Girls Who Invest Ambassadors – asset management professionals who served as on-the-ground resources that the scholars could turn to for advice and friendship.

The wonderful relationships that our scholars formed during their ten weeks with Girls Who Invest will be invaluable to them for the rest of their lives. And our partners say that these bright young women have what it takes to become the next generation of leading investors which is very exciting.

Next year, Girls Who Invest will grow its Summer Intensive Program to 100 college women and add a second program location at the University of Notre Dame. We will also continue to offer our Online Learners Program with Coursera and CFA Institute. We can't wait to expand our amazing Girls Who Invest community in 2018!
